taking care of ailing family members is truly a unique experience. it's a constant test of patience and keeping raw emotions in check. a draining process, yet if the shoe were on the other foot, i know i'd receive day in and day out care in a heartbeat. it's just hard sometimes, doling out and not feeling as if there is any progress on this long journey. nonetheless, all things are possible with His help.

i've been aiming to cultivate intrinsic motivation in my students - as in, they work hard, show good listening and respect not because they can earn a sticker or a privilege, but simply because it's the right thing to do in that situation. i'm finally starting to feel as if students have internalized much of what i've been trying to pass on to them since september - this includes knowledge of grade-specific curriculum, but more importantly, self-awareness that leads to the making of choices that are positive for themselves and others. what a blessing!

last week was indeed a time of much needed relaxation, rest and refreshment. being able to take in spectacular scenery even within an urban setting, visit with new and old faces, and be challenged to walk deeper in my faith without worrying about the usual stressors of home and work while creating sweet memories...what could be better?

now back to the dailies, and finding out yesterday that one in my family is in perhaps poorer health than originally predicted...oh, Lord, we need Your strength and care!!!
