David was in town for the weekend, and we had a great time with both tourist-y and local activities. one of the highlights was getting a picture with the immensely tall Street Performer!

Zurich is in 3 days and counting. while the suitcase continues to fill up and the clock is ticking, it still hasn't fully registered in my mind yet that the adventure is soon to start. does anyone know if i need to bring an adaptor if i want to plug in my cell phone, charge batteries there?!? i've asked around and no one has gotten back to me. excited...FOR SURE!!

as a result of overexertion and wiping runny noses of many, i've now lost my voice and come down with my own case of 感冒. now i truly understand why giving of yourself comes at a cost. one week till i leave and armed with much bitter medicine...so, God-willing, this too shall pass in no time.

not wanting to use health as an excuse, i spent the evening at Dream Tea House, helping Cody celebrate his birthday, with Joseph, Kristin and Sing-Yue:

here are Joeross, Cody and Kristin, all trying bubble tea for the first time.

the lids are so cute; you never know where the straw will end up!

Kristin's drink (i was the outsider with the only 'non-pink' mango bubble tea!).

Joe, Sing and Kristin in our intense round of 飛行棋. Chinese checkers went well, too...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CODY! keep doing awesome things for the Lord!

from the Live 8 website:

Every single day, 30,000 children die, needlessly, of extreme poverty.

On July 6th, we finally have the opportunity to stop that shameful statistic.

8 world leaders, gathered in Scotland for the G8 summit, will be presented with a workable plan to double aid, drop the debt and make the trade laws fair. If these 8 men agree, then we will become the generation that made poverty history.

But they'll only do it if enough people tell them to.

That's why we're staging LIVE 8. 10 concerts, 100 artists, a million spectators, 2 billion viewers, and 1 message... To get those 8 men, in that 1 room, to stop 30,000 children dying every single day of extreme poverty.

We don't want your money - we want you!

so click here to sign the petition which states:

To the 8 most powerful leaders in the world

50,000 people are dying, needlessly, every day of extreme poverty.

At this year's G8 summit meeting, it is within your power to put an end to this tragedy. It is an extraordinary opportunity which it would be shameful to ignore. We urge you to take these 3 steps to make extreme poverty history...

1. double the aid sent to the world's poorest countries,
2. fully cancel their debts,
3. change the trade laws so that they can build their own future.

an opportunity has been dropped in our laps to make a difference in the world. let's go for it! ^_^

HAPPY CANADA DAY, no matter where you are!

last year at this time was our church's recreational day. regrettably i'm missing out on an awesome friend's BBQ simply for the fact that the past week has been as draining as i predicted it would be.

the work is long and hard, but also rewarding. many of the kids under our care come from broken and/or unstable homes, and if we can provide them with nurture and attention that builds up their self-worth in those hours we have them, it's a starting point. what a blessing family can be when rooted in Christ, yet those whose lives are shattered desperately need His love and protection.

about two weeks till i head off on missions, but too busy to prepare much at the moment.
