i heard kelly clarkson's "since you've been gone" for the second time today. the tune caught my attention, for sure (the girl's got good pipes, i'll give her that!), so i thought i'd go look up the lyrics...wow, it sure seems easier to write ANGRY poetry than anything else! the chorus seems to contradict itself:
But since you've been gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so movin' on
Yeah yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get what I want
Since you've been gone
it's really painful to watch people stay in relationships, even when they feel suffocated, merely because they someone to tell them that they're worth more than diamonds, that their lives have meaning, because they can't find this affirmation anywhere else. God made us for more than that!
(don't get me wrong, i'm not on a feminist kick...FARRR from it. but if you're feeling trapped, be wise and get out!)
you need but one prince charming... <3

bad neighbors with snowblowers make mothers crabby :(
it's unusual that where we've lived the longest is where we have the least pleasant neighbors. we never asked for people to shovel our walk, mow our grass, or even a 'hi', so we were never disappointed. however, certain things are just unacceptable...
Jesus never was treated as royalty, which He deserved to be, and it boggles my mind how He was still able to hold His head high and do His Father's will. may we all learn from Him.

a breakdown of last week's excursion to calgary/cochrane:
sunday, january 9:
arrive in calgary around 7:15 p.m. via greyhound
dinner at BeSeTo (chinatown) with jef, uncle stephen, and auntie esther
monday, january 10:
first day of "introduction to church planting" j-term course (9 to 4, through friday the 14th) at CSBS was preceded by a quick breakfast at timmy's
moved in with kristin, kyra, kyla and wendy on campus with a dual aim: study and solitude
solitude? not quite. phone's at my disposal, so i go about calling up and arranging to meet with long-time friends from junior high and church
tuesday, january 11:
classes continue; begin morning ritual of devotions and chatting with melinda near 'fireplace' while watching sun rise over the rockies
highlights include ian's "surprising" pop quizzes, hilarious anecdotes and chatting with min bo and john (both from edmonton), ride home from library with joseph and eric (both from TO)
ever-changing lunch break lengths allow for refreshing naps
still practising solitude, but also practising mandarin in conversation with wendy
wednesday, january 12:
temperature dips to something like minus forty without windchill with blowing snow
solitude interrupted by homemade vegetable soup, robbie's guitaring and wendy's dramatic reaction to "just for laughs"
thursday, january 13:
lunch with min bo and his family; especially entertained by his 2 year old son running in and out of the curtain while looking like a cartoon character ^^
entertaining yet meaningful banter with ian, anita, leighton and roger
solitude ends with heading back out to calgary with jef after class
first time in a jewelery studio, artworks
coffee with erin, aarin and lee at bada** cafe, where i heard about aarin's multiple injuries
friday, january 14:
class ends with paul's apple pie, group case study (anita at the helm) and sunflower seed jars
excitement at visiting my old junior high (f.e. osborne) with debbie turns to disappointment as we realize we can't get past the front foyer, then joy again as we brave the cold to walk to the park where our group used to lunch back in grade 9
then to market mall for shopping and dinner; surprised at aritzia's "xxxs" designations
chinese checkers and watching hong kong soaps (new and old) with uncle stephen and auntie esther
saturday, january 15:
coffee with erin at crowfoot starbucks
jamming, chatting and digicamming with angela at her place
off to chinook centre and east side mario's (where we supposedly had a "25-35 minutes' wait") with madeleine, lorraine and angela - photo booth, heffalump and sesame street moments
ice wine, pistachios and quality time with joni, her family and sam (also from edmonton!)
candid photo perusing with jef of mainly ccbcers and christian/ethan
sunday, january 16:
early morning journey to ccbc, picking up matt, steph, and janet along the way
met david from toronto (yay, now we both had someone to visit ccbc with!)
attended both the english and cantonese worship services, talked with old friends afterwards, including gabz, ada, angel, anita, jacky (met elaine) and some aunties and uncles
straddled two tables during lunch at 天皇 with the jung's and tsui's
browsed novelty and loonie stores at north hill with jef and jung's before heading over to greyhound to bus back to edmonton
...yup, fun and memorable days those were.
my longest entry in a while, i would imagine. just stating facts, really. but yeah...

time for a new post, i suppose, what with the last being from 2004...
winter conference blew my mind this year - well, not the experience itself, but how God chose to use that week to speak to me and entirely flip around my thoughts and perspectives.
here oi yee and i are with our bedside fellowship leader, helen:
and with lesley and lynn:
here's most of the group that went from evangel:
the one week of seminary study and visitation in calgary also triggered much reflection. where He leads, may i follow.
